Passion and Percussion in the City
Observations from within a spontaneous, 'social-soundscape', and attempt to channel feelings of those rhythms back into a series of photographs.
The Tam-Tams is an informal drum circle that has occurred on most winter-less Sundays in Montreal over the past 40 years. This weekly 'coming-together' is a testament to integrated living in a densely populated urban environment. It represents an evolved pastiche of cultural practices expressing a shared, love-of-the-city:
The vibrant ritual of a successful melting pot in an community that is homogeneous and inclusive.
The Tam-Tams can be seen as an expression of a really great place to live!
I have been making photos of this event since 1984. This selection from 2016 are some of the best photos I have made that capture the passions of the people who are drawn back every Sunday over so many years, including myself. I will continue to expand on this archive every year. (c) Ron T. Simon
